2008 Welsh Ocean Masters - Aberavon
What a great day with some outstanding performances:
Packers: What can I say... the woman is an animal!
Andrea: Finally a swim with a wetsuit... come on Kelton treat her its nearly Christmas.
Mark: A great day's competion from one of the club's finest competitors.
Ghost: The spook lived up to his feasome reputation in the swim and a dark horse on
the ski.
Richie: Return of the Thunder Foot and beasted the Swim.
Big Will: A false start on the swim saw his chances of the triple swept away, was
very strong on the ski (due to a hard winter's training).
Fish: A real "Shark" in the water. A very powerful performance on the double ski.
Believes his real strength lies in the sprint and the relay. Promising big things
for the future.
Craig: Not bad from the World Champion. Some comentators mentioned that he
seemed to be picking himself in teams that were likely to medal, others
believed that he seemed a little quiet now there some young guns in the team.
Jonny: One of the young guns. Tied at the top in the medal count. What did his work
collegue deliver to his tent half way through the competition? Very wobaly on
the double.
Buller: A great performance in the double and the flags ( the man is a nuisance!)
Brooksy: A strong performance in the swim, with a great sprint finish. Not a great double
paddle; plans to paddle all of next winter.
Sorry no scores as yet.
Bodysurfing Session 10th of August.
What can I say...Some classic ol' Skool manouvers from the Big Fella, Ginge and Buller.
Has Jonny "Lead Arms" Lewis lost his Backskuttling Crown to a new contender, Big Meecham?
Vicky and Rhain please refer to http://www.body-surfing.co.uk/ for advice :-)

The sport of Ironman was developed in 1964 in Australia to combine the four main disciplines of surf lifesaving into a single race; swimming, board paddling, ski paddling and running. The competition initially involved the UK ’s finest 20 female and 26 male Ocean competitors. The first of three rounds of the Ironman event saw 5 men and 2 women being retired, the second round saw another 5 men and 2 women being removed from the competition. The final round saw Pen-y-Bont’s GB team member Rhian Thomas taking 2nd, with a prize of £50 and a wetsuit. Club Captain Craig Robinson was the highest place male with a well deserved 5th. Further congratulations to Shophie James who placed 4th. Other members who made the final round were:

Festival Hossegor 2007
Email from Chris Parry
Hi All
Just when you thought the season was about to end we have received an invitation from France to attend the Competition in Hossegor on 1Nov (Masters) and 2&3 Nov (Seniors – Open).
Teams are able to enter as composite teams either as a city, a region or a nation, provided it has a precise name and a responsible team captain - so we can enter as SLSA Wales Masters, Seniors Team 1 Team 2 etc or as individual Clubs etc if people wish to attend. I have attached all the entry details I have received.
If you are interested please contact myself or Tony Jenkins or forward this onto the competition people at your Club.
We are considering entering several Welsh Composite Teams should Members be interested – (the trip would be self funding with competitors sorting out their own transport/flights and accommodation – but should there be enough interest a trailer (with the costs shared) could transport the gear to the competition.
Regards
Chris Parry

Club IRB Involved with Multiple Agency Rescue
The South Wales Echo reported the following:
"A SCHOOLGIRL was recovering in hospital today(MON) after plunging from her horse.
The 15-year-old fell from her mount at Ogmore by Sea, near Bridgend, at 4.30pm yesterday(SUN) and had to be airlifted to the Princess of Wales Hospital by RAF Sea King helicopter.
It is thought she suffered back injuries after the horse trampled on her at the popular beauty spot.
Paramedics sent by the Welsh Ambulance Service alerted HM Coastguard when they realised it would be difficult to transfer the girl to a road ambulance.
A Coastguard spokesman said: "We believe she may have been injured by the horse trampling, because of her location she was transferred by helicopter to the Princess of Wales hospital."
The Sea King was based at RAF Chivenor in Devon and a , 28 minutes flying time away.
A shore-based Coastguard team from Porthcawl was also sent to Ogmore. "
What they failed to report was the fact that the Penybont IRB was launched to assist in the transfer of the paramedic and equipment to the patient. This launch was performed after the voluntary patrol had ended.
"Whatever It Takes!"

Woolacombe are bringing approx 35 paddlers and it should prove a good day. A B B Q has been arranged at the Sail Club for approx 4pm (price £4.50 in advance) as Woolacombe have to leave approx 8pm.
If anyone would like more information you can contact us at 01656 663600 or Ben Longhurst at the Leisure Centre Tel 02920 378161 or email.
GM News
Yet again the turn out at the club's AGM was pathetic. A big thank you to those who made it and spent their own time preparing and photocopying their section reports, only to hand out a few. Here are two quotes to think about
"The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment." Robert Maynard Hutchins
" A university professor set an examination question in which he asked what is the difference between ignorance and apathy. The professor had to give an A+ to a student who answered: I dont know and I dont care." Richard Pratt
I will add an extra page to the site detailing the club committee members.

Senior Nationals
A quick Friday night recce revealed that surf on Fistral was huge - 6-8' plus! Some great bodysurfing done by the lads! Special mention to Lewis Rosewell who became a man taking on the big waves with the lads instead of heading back to the beach like his older brother.
Weather that night was terrible and kept all the campers awake. The Competition was moved on Saturday to a beach near Falmouth (it was as small as Jackson's Bay, but had smaller surf!) it was decided to hold all the sea events during the day. Highlights included.....
